About The Joy Now Summer Camp!
Being creative and having fun is what Joy Now is all about; spend an entire week with members of MarchFourth Marching Band in a creative immersion like no other, as we get to know each other by learning songs, dancing, singing, and performing in the streets of Portland!
Members of MarchFourth will be your guides as we learn songs and create dances. At the end of our week together, we’ll take it to the streets, classic M4 style!
*This camp is for youth ages 13-18*
Focus Your Art
When you register, you’ll be asked to choose an area of concentration- either a specific instrument, your voice, or a form of movement or dance. In addition to playing and jamming with the whole group, you will spend the week with your individual section, learning the parts, building new skills, developing phrases and exploring how to create with a small group.
Choose from the following:
- Brass* (trumpet, trombone, baritone, etc)
- Woodwinds* ( Saxophone, clarinet, flute, etc)
- Hula Hooping
- Circus Arts
*Minimum one year experience, and placement test required
Expand your creative horizons…
In addition to playing with your section, you will have the opportunity to rock out in a bunch of other creative outlets: making custom costumes and band gear in our radical costume laboratory, learning body percussion, circus arts, singing, theater and more. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced musician or dancer who wants to take your skills to a new level, Joy Now is just right for you.
Make your art lasting…
Joy Now! gives youth the chance to participate fully and actively in a community centered around art and positive collaboration. As well as a music & performance art program, it is also a life-skills, and global awareness program. You’ll have the chance to do new things, explore multiple creative practices, learn and share different points of view, build your self-confidence, and learn how to use art for positive and effective social change.
